I caught a lucky break
Osteoporosis is a common condition that is underdiagnosed and undertreated. Midlife represents a critical period for intervention for women. During the menopause transition, estrogen levels drop, accelerating loss in bone mineral density and bone strength. This starts one to two years before menopause until two to five years post-menopause. The average reduction in bone mineral density is about 10% during the menopause transition with approximately half of women losing bone more rapidly, perhaps as much as 10-20%.
